Whilst out on a walk in the area I've recently moved to, I crossed paths with an injured rabbit.
It had been attacked by a stoat and it was alive but sort of paralyzed. I got closer to it and sat with it for a while. I shed a tear and sang it a song, wished it a good rest of its journey and a, hopefully, swift death.
I dreamed of the rabbit for many nights and one night woke up with a clear vision of the art pieces I needed to create.
This piece for me weaves together themes of wintering, processing past hurt & digesting the year past whilst looking at the future - whilst facing a new beginning and finding new belonging.
It’s been a companion in exploring and expressing an inner state I've inhabited in these past months - giving form to what’s so far been intangible... helping me navigate a feeling through texture.
The combination of different processes that visually merge into one unified multimedia piece reflects the multifaceted nature of feeling, especially for Highly Sensitive folk like me.
Dynamics of prey and predator are also subtly explored.
Central part of the composition is the abstract knitted piece - the pattern is inspired by the British Geological Survey map of the area I moved to and met the rabbit in.
